Just Remember (R.I.P. Mike Baker)

Today, or actually Wednesday, was a sad day for most prog metal fans: Mike Baker, founding member and vocalist from Shadow Gallery, passed away because of a heart attack, at the young age of 45. He was an amazing and powerful singer, obviously one that will be obviously missed if Shadow Gallery decides to keep on with the band for a next album. There's nothing much I can say from this guy, just: R.I.P. Mike.

I'll add some Shadow Gallery songs today ... And well, I'll pass on the comments this time ...

Dont Ever Cry, Just Remember - Shadow Gallery

I must have stood for hours
The mist of dawn still rising
Brushing from my face
Cold tears of finally knowing
The world that we had twisted
The years of strength and glory
Were wicked and obscene
And there we stood so proud
What legends we must be
Really something to behold Lord
So irresponsible
With the powers of creation
A princess crowned in jewels
Robed in the finest cloth
Dauntlessly invincible
So perfect so unreal

In one great moment judgements fallen
Babylon no longer there
Gone are her streets her giant towers
Disappeared into thin air
Don't ever cry just remember

It must have been my mood
I'm usually much stronger now
I know there's just one way
And this is how it has to be
There was poison in our thoughts
And there was hatred in our eyes
Suddenly something came
Something made it right
We purged our hearts and souls
And we saw through children's eyes
Not stifled by the pain
Not blinded by our
Human nature don't you see at all
The wisdom of our suffering
The lies behind our ways
The reasons for the end

From the moment I was raptured
Babylonia disappeared
I now return here a survivor
The rest have vanished to thin air
Don't ever cry just remember

The wind blows cold tonight
No lamplights from no windows
I am sure enough alone
And I am sure enough alive
So through eternity
The gift of light gets passed along
to those of us who saw
What the rest could never see
Born to a fallen world
Longing for a morning star
Held on high
For me
As this vision comes to close
The last footsteps ever wonder here
They echo in my mind
Never to return

All is done and slowly fading
Babylon she once stood there
I walked her streets I climbed her mountains
I disappear into thin air
Don't ever cry just remember

Shadow_Gallery_-_Crystalline Dream

Hold onto these
Memories I grant you
The gifts of our lives
Lost in the sands of time
Deserts forever
Relentlessly barren
I crossed them all
In the blink of an eye
I command light and solar winds
To transport me
The deepest assurance
I speak with my mind
Caves of glass
Shatter before me
The wheels are in motion
Forever they turn
And are carved in the great book of life
There in your room
Alone in the shadows
I smashed down the walls
And set you free
I carry the torch
That trembles the mountains
Seen visions of power
Beyond all belief
You close your eyes
I reach out and touch you
Reflections in pools
The deepest of dreams
Rumors of war
Rage in your heart now
The wheels are in motion
Together we turn them
Come down with fire
I want to love you want to take you into my heart
We'll cruise the starways
And from the moment that we touch our love turns into a crystalline dream
Fly where your dreams go
With open eyes it's the dawn and you're alive
No time or space here
I walk in castles of gold
Our love turns into a crystalline dream

____________

Act III - Comfort Me - Shadow Gallery

I look into your blue eyes deep pools I had no idea
I know hunted down from coast to coast
Circumstance prevailed it was hard on us both.
I've run hard, I'm so tired from the chase
So desperately I'm aching
The waning of the starlight
Embers turn to ash as I fade.

And now you're next to me
I beg you baby please don't go
End of the road for me
I'll just hold you close
Just hold you close
End of the mystery a gift from heaven on this day
Your touch to comfort me
Just comfort me

Your sheltering soul not a moment too soon
You're a sweet tourniquet
For my soul lies rife with open wounds
And yes I thought as I closed my eyes
I saw phantom apparitions dance
And are we really safe on our own
Or are they out there watching
Right now I don't want to care at all
Just like a silent song
Just reach out your hands and take hold
Take hold
When the limit of your pain
Exceeds the mercies of your love
It's time to cease and release and just fly

And now you've come to me
A sanctuary borne of love
Honest sincerity I'll just hold you close
Just hold you close
It's in the way you move
A phoenix risen on this day
Your touch to comfort me
Just comfort me

I disrobe my burdens and I lay them at your feet
So much about this world I'd just as soon they keep
Their faces melt reflections on the wind
Or are they out there watching
As time stands still this Christmas Day

_____________

Well, I wanted to end this post with Shadow Gallery's best song IMO, but well there's only one video (and no tracks) for this one...I'll have to upload it in a bit, for the audio of the video sometimes mixes with video itself ... and well that sucks ... (I hope they don't ban my new account for one song...)

Alaska - Shadow Gallery

Remember I painted pictures of you
And I never found my way out
I spent a lifetime of dreams in
the fields of your eyes
Lay me down when the rain covers you
And I'm afraid of the emptiness holding my thoughts
I see blue I see grey all the while

And when the night comes again I'll
hold my hands to the skies
I've got a dream of home I've got a dream of home
And when the winter comes calling
turn my face to the wind
I've got a dream of home I've got a dream
Of Alaska

Your name is whispered with the breath of my soul
[ Find more Lyrics at www.mp3lyrics.org/Iwvj ]
In a hope that I'll never let fade
Between the mist on the waves and the blue of the sky
I threw a rose to the sea in your name
Now listen
Somewhere tonight there are tears on the wind
Are they yours are they mine I don't know

I'm crying out to the sky
I hope you're with me tonight
I've got a dream of home I've got a dream of home
And now the eatrh is left wanting
Turn my face to the wind
I've got a dream of home I've got a dream
Of Alaska

All through my life I stood tall as the sky
Hold to the things that I knew were so real
All I could feel
Strange how it goes how it comes to an end
Lord take your hand
Take you home once again

EDIT (11.01.08): I'm adding another song to this post: 'Deeper Than Life' to the count...

Deeper Than Life - Shadow Gallery

On the run from
Suicide
Love breeches
Temptation
On the edge boy
What's inside
You better look
You better run and hide
Storms coming
A hurricane
Tear the roof from the
The foundation
Crystal ball smashed again
It's all there in the balance
Hanging

Wrong time to not regret your actions
These are dangerous roads that we travel tonight
I'm tuning into you your eyes are faintly glowing
Can't you see the truth my mind is deeper than life
It's a strange dream and I know you're in it
Clinging to a rainbow by your fingernails
I'm shining bright as a star my thoughts become electric
Cause my soul is alive
It's deeper than life
Than life

No time
For real life
You're heading
For deep trouble
Star tripping
Red line
All engines
At full throttle
Lost balance
On such a dream
Wasted love on your
Precious money
Look around
Time to scream
You hit the skids
At the speed of light now

Fill all of that emptiness with the blood I've shed
It's the spirit of life
Don't build your dreams on the treasures of man
They'll drag you away
It's a deadly lie

Sad song why don't they ever listen
It's the gift of love that helps to keep us alive
You miss the point again and it's your last horizon
Can't you see the truth my mind is deeper than life
I'm a strong man yes I can see the future
And it's good or bad and nowhere in between
You can't just spin the wheel you've got to ride on lightning
Cause your soul is alive
It's deeper than life
Than life

...

Tonight I'll add two songs ... Two songs in spanish. Both from the same guy (Gustavo Cerati, ex-frontman from the now defunct-once-more Soda Stereo), both awesome songs (IMO).

First, 'Lago En El Cielo' ... Got this song about ... a year ago or more probably, but I've just started listening to this song in the previous 15 days ... It was pretty good I must say... It's the kind of song I could listen to on and on and on for a whole night without minding it ... It has a certain ... touch ... One of the songs that leave me aching for more ... Or maybe sounds similar to something I can't remember at the moment.

Lago En El Cielo - Gustavo Cerati

(Album: Ahí Vamos)

Un lago en el cielo
quiero ser suave
para evitar tu dureza
apago tu fuego
enciende mi agua
puede que no haya certezas

Vamos despacio
para encontrarnos
el tiempo es arena en mis manos
sé por tus marcas
cuanto has amado
más de lo que prometiste

Hoy te apuré
(estaba tan sensible)
son espejismos que aumentan la sed
si adelanté no me hagas caso
a veces no puedo con la soledad

Vamos despacio
para encontrarnos
el tiempo es arena en mis manos.
sé por tus marcas
cuanto has dejado
para olvidar lo que hiciste
sentir algo que nunca sentiste

Sos el paisaje más soñado
y sacudiste las más sólidas tristezas
y respondiste cada vez que te he llamado

Vamos despacio
para encontrarnos
el tiempo es arena en mis manos
un lago en el cielo
es mi regalo
para olvidar lo que hiciste
y sentir algo que nunca sentiste
hacerte sentir
algo que nunca sentiste

_________

And well, sucks, but for the second song I've got only live videos, for not even the mp3 is up for preview ... It's called 'Medium' and it's by far my favorite song from the Cerati era, cos maybe it's sound links to the Soda Stereo one, that one that I'm deeply missing since a year ago ...

Medium - Gustavo Cerati

(Album: Ahí Vamos)

Pude desaparecer
pude decir que no
pero el fin de la pasión
es que lo oculto se vea
vine a avisarte

Chica con ojos de ayer
sé que vibras también
la extraña sensación
de no pertenecer a este mundo
como en un trance

Ya tantas veces morí
nunca me pude ir
el arte de vivir
por encima del abismo
estoy condenado a errar
(de amor en amor…)

Poseídos por el más allá
Poseídos por el más allá

It's been a week

Well ... Just to make a brief thing for tonight ... I'll put some Toto videos for tonight I guess... Descriptions will have to wait, I need the sleep for tonight ...

So what Toto songs should I include? I'll put 3 ... Two my previous favorites and my not-so-new-but-newer-than-the-other-favorites song.

First 'Hold The Line' an instant classic in rock music... Toto shows themselves with romantic ballads mostly ... and some slow 'dance-able' rock songs .... But behind those tracks there only stands one: 'Hold The Line' an amazing song that not only captivates those from the generation this band appeared, but has managed to stay up to par with newer generations ... Well rock and some of the metal fans newer generations. This song alone is reason to like Toto ... (of course they have many more reasons)

This was the first song that I liked from Toto(I liked Africa before, but never cared enough to find out who performed it so that doesn't count). Besides radio listening, a band in school prom decide to play it during the last show of my last year at school (and they closed the Christmas show with AC/DC's 'Highway To Hell' ... what a nice memory I must admit) ... Anycase, two days after that I was listening to the classic songs from this band ...

Hold The Line - Toto

(Album: Toto)

Hold The Line

It's not in the way that you hold me
It's not in the way you say you care
It's not in the way you've been treating my friends
It's not in the way that you'll stay till the end
It's not in the way you look or the things that you say that you do

Hold the line
Love isn't always on time

It's not in the words that you told me
It's not in the way you say you're mine
It's not in the way that you came back to me
It's not in the way that your love set me free
It's not in the way you look or the things that you say that you do

Hold the line
Love isn't always on time

It's not in the words that you told me
It's not in the way you say you're mine
It's not in the way that you came back to me
It's not in the way that your love set me free
It's not in the way you look or the things that you say that you do

Hold the line
Love isn't always on time

It's not in the way that you hold me
It's not in the way that you make me feel
You see
It's all about the way you do the things you do
The way you do it
You've got to hold it
Hold it

Hold the line
Love isn't always on time

Second, 'Pamela'. This song is one of the songs I previously mentioned in those songs that got Toto famous for being a 'dance-able' rock song. The image is simple: guy who doesn't want to forget a girl who is not physically near him. Solution? Simpler: right a rock song for the girl! Well I hope this  imaginary relationship worked out in the end, for he created an amazing song just for her.

Pamela - Toto

(Album: The Seventh One)

Side by side
I'll be yours forever
Yes I will
Rain or shine
Any kind of weather
Any kind

There isn't anything I wouldn't do for you
Let's take what's getting old and make it new

Eye to eye
It's a blinding confrontation
I said you and I
are a deadly combination

So don't start mixing truth with jealousy
The road we're on is clear as far as I can see

Pamela
Don't break this heart of mine
Just remember it may not heal this time
Pamela
There is no second chance
For the one who leaves it all behind

Black and white
Always go together
And on day and night
You're the precious jewel I treasure

Wanting every part of you is not a crime
Could it be that you're the one who's wrong this time

Pamela
Don't break this heart of mine
Just remember it may not heal this time
Pamela
There is no second second chance
For the one who leaves it all behind
Leave all

Oh Pamela
Thousands of miles away but always in my heart

Pamela
So don't break this heart of mine
Just remember it may not heal this time
Pamela
There is no second chance
For the one who leaves it all behind

Pamela
Don't break this heart of mine
Just remember it may not heal this time
Pamela
There is no second chance
For the one who leaves it all
Leave all beind

I still love you little girl
I still love you
And you know it little Pamela
I still love you yes I do
And you know it little Pamela
Come on
Oh little Pamela
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯

Thirdly, and the last from Toto for a while: 'Stop Loving You'. This one can also be included in the same group as 'Pamela', but has impregnated much more feeling into it. This is the kind of songs that make you wonder and think of those moments you want to see come true or that have already happened. Amazing song. Thanks to one of my best friends for this one ... (in case she ever sees this)

Stop Loving You - Toto

(Album: The Seventh One)

Reflections in my mind
Thought I can't define
My heart is racing and the night goes on
I can almost hear a laugh
Coming from your photograph
Funny how a look can share a thousand meanings
Well intented lies
Contemplainting alibies
Is it really you or is it me I'm blaming?
A distant memory flashes over me
Even though you're gone I feel you deep inside

Dance beneath the light with that look in your eyes

I can't stop loving you
Time passes quickly and chances are few
I won't stop till I'm through loving you girl

There a window in a heart
I've tried to look through from the start
You're never really sure what someone else is thinking
Someone's broken something new
Another altered point of view
Just a certain someone's conscience playing
I had it in my hand
I did not understand
What lives inside the wind that cries her name
Trying to catch a shooting star
What seems so close can't be far
I'm living in a dream that's never ending

I can't stop loving you
Time passes quickly and chances are few
I won't stop till I'm through loving you girl

Dancing with that look that's in your eyes

I can't stop loving you
Time passes quickly and chances are few
I won't stop till I'm through loving you girl

I can't stop loving you
Time passes quickly and chances are few
I won't stop till I'm through loving you
Loving you
Yeah yeah yeah
Loving you
I wonder when I'll stop loving you
Yeah
¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯

Wait! Thought that was it?! Well ... here's an extra ... A song that was shown to me recently (thanks: You know who you are). This song is something I got late into, but probably the best song I've heard in the last months (I'm currently addicted to this song, with about 68 repetitions since I've adquired it... And I don't even begin to feel tired about it ...*) . I love this song, that's all I can say... But for the video, well the guy does what I thought of the song: do whatever you want to do without caring for anyone who sees you (not that I'd be able to do it ... but the intention is what counts right?) ...

*I recognized the addiction, but I don't have a problem with it.

Trains To Brazil - Guillemots
Aaahhhhh
aaaahhhhaaa
aaaah
You're feelin old

Its 1 o clock on a friday morning
I'm trying to keep my back from the wall
The prophets and their bombs have had another success
And i'm wondering why we bother at all

And i think of you on cold winter mornings
Darling they remind me of when we were at school
Nothing really mattered when you called out my name
In fact, nothing really mattered at all

And i think about how long it will take them to blow us away
But i won't get me down, I'm just thankful to be facing the day

Cos days don't get you far when you're gone

It's five o clock on a Friday morning
one hundred telephones shake and ring
And one of them is from someone who knew you.......

And i still think of you on cold winter mornings
Darling they'll still remind me of when we were at school
When they could never have persuaded me that lives like yours
were the hands of these eronious fools

And to those of you who moan your lives through one day to the next
Well let them take you next
Cos you live and be thankful you're here

See it could be you tomorrow next year

I & O

It's Wednesday, and I'm not really sure on what to put up on today ... I'm currently listening to Pain Of Salvation, but it's not the time for a post about them... yet. So what can I use? Since my mind isn't really helping me to go on with this at the moment, I'll pick up two songs from two different bands (both from UK) as a stallment to a better post ... That will happen at another time, not specified.

First, well I'll use the scottish rock Idlewild, with a pretty much amazing song: "You Held The World In Your Arms". A song pretty much intense and easy to enjoy (for me at least) that didn't need much help to become one of my favorites through time. Got this song through other of my addictions: gaming. Playing Fifa 2003 for my GCN, I loved this song from the beginning (even spent time in the audio setup section messing with ... stuff ... just to listen to this song). I have to say, that the only thing that remains good in these Electronic Art games through the years, must be the EA Trax... Well on with the song:

You Held The World In Your Arms - Idlewild

Album: The Remote Part

Every face
Even the one you saw yesterday
It looks different today
Cos everything's changed since yesterday
In every possible way
Things seem different today
Not like yesterday
Is consideration
More like an acception - of consideration?

Cos you have the world in your arms tonight
And what if you held the world in your arms?

When you're secure, do you feel much safer?
As days never change, and it's three years later
It's like your life hasn't changed,
And it's three years late
So how does it feel, to be three years late?
And watching your youth drift away
What seems different, seems different today
And what seems different, seems different today
Is consideration
More like an exception - of consideration?

Cos you have the world in your arms tonight
And what if you held the world in your arms?
You have the world in your arms tonight
And what if you held the world in your arms?
(tonight...) (tonight...)

Cos you have the world in your arms tonight
And what if you held the world in your arms?
Cos you have the world in your arms tonight
And what if you held the world in your arms?

______________

Now, I'll add something that according to my Last.fm, comes from one of my top 3 bands (which makes me remember that I should include something by Rush soon): Oasis. This british band that established themselves and made a reknown name around the world during the 90's, got to me around 2007 (asides from popular songs like Wonderwall, or Don't Look Back In Anger, this last one I listened to without knowing the band playing it and it's now at the top with The Hindu Times). Well, one of the songs I listened to before getting into the band was in fact The Hindu Times, pretty much because at that time (about 2001 or 2002 here, when I listened to punkpop bands as Blink-182), the TV cable companyscrewed something up, and we ended only with half of the channels we normally used to have, so MTV was out for me (and this 'episode' later marked my independence from this channel), and Sony was my only source for different music. The Hindu Times was one of the songs that appeared (and repeated for only-God-knows how many times) in between soap-operas, comedies, etc. It had brief lifetime since the channel decided to update the songs and Oasis went by for another year or two. Near half 2004 I asked a classmate to create a CD with random songs (most of which I not so randomly selected), when I randomly remembered the song. So, after 2 weeks after asking him, he gave me a mixed CD with the songs (that went from Oasis, to Adema, to Incubus, and probably some stuff from Box Car Racer, Wheatus, and a Chilean band called Los Prisioneros ... This CD still holds one of the many memories about songs that puzzle me, for I can't find a song in the CD, nor I can remember enough of the song to Google it).

Well (after that weird disgregational thought) I'll resume back to the story: I ended up being addicted to The Hindu Times without really knowing the band, only to actually get into them about 3 years later. So, on with the actual song:

The Hindu Times - Oasis

Album: Heathen Chemistry

I get up when i'm down
i can't swim but my soul won't drown
i do believe i've got flare
i got speed and i walk on air

cos god give me a soul
in your rock n' roll babe
cos god give me a soul
in your rock n' roll babe
and i get so high i just can't feel it
and i get so high i just can't feel it

in and out my brain
running through my veins
cos you're my sunshine
you're my rain

theres a light that shines on
shines on me
and it keeps me warm
it gave me peace
i must say
i cant sleep
cos the world wont wait

cos god give me a soul
in your rock n' roll babe
cos god give me a soul
in your rock n' roll babe
i can get so high i just can't feel it
i can get so high i just can't feel it

and i get so high i just can't feel it
and i get so high i just can't feel it
and i get so high i just can't feel it
and i get so high i just can't feel it

in and out my brain
running through my veins
cos you're my sunshine
you're my rain

Pic-Nic!

Today, something by Soda Stereo: the song's called 'Picnic en el 4°B', originally from the 'Doble Vida' album and well, this is the live version from last year's tour 'Me Verás Volver' (both the regrouping and final tour for Soda Stereo). Pretty much this song has become my emblem  for this band, topping other reknown songs in Latin America (and maybe some other places too).

This live version is not only a much more hyped tune than  the studio album, but also included a neat (but very very) little tirbute to Talking Heads's 'And She Was' track.

How did I manage to like this song? T'is very easy, I should say. I was there, when Cerati & friends performed the second (extra) concert, jumping around to the rythm of the music with one of my friends in one of my favorite nights ever ... Well, I wasn't that near to the stage, and Cerati, Bosio, and Alberti where barely visible for me, but hell, I enjoyed it anyway. So without anything else to say: Picnic en el 4°B

Picnic en el 4°B - Soda Stereo

Hay una que no puede parar
De hablar de glamour
Y él solo piensa en comer
Su fruta prohibida
Mi majestad se ha perdido
Entre una multitud
Mojando la alfombra
Con sus sueños de diva

Picnic en el 4ºB
Es una cuestión de voltaje
Picnic en el 4ºB
Ya me acostumbraste

Golpean la puerta
Por décima vez
Es que falta alguien por venir
Cuando me suba esa cara de gaste
Y me baje el alcohol
Entre el alud podré asomar mi nariz
Y salir a la calle

Picnic en el 4ºB
Es una cuestión de voltaje
Picnic en el 4ºB
Ya me acostumbraste

Prefiero vagar sin sentido
A empapelar mi habitación
Creí cambiar aquel sonido
Y aquí estoy
Bailando esta maldita canción
Oh, no ...Esta no es mi noche

Picnic en el 4ºB
Es una cuestión de voltaje
Picnic en el 4ºB
Ya me acostumbraste

(what Cerati adds in the end)

De todas maneras
And she was! (Hey! Hey! Hey!)
And she was!
(Hey! Hey! Hey!)
And she was...
Picnic!

Wait, what?

I've decided to open this blog just for the music I listen to. Nothing more, and nothing less.

Why?

Well, probably because I wanted a separate blog for the music (from the other stuff I would normally include in the other blog). Music is different than anything else I might add, it's more special (well that was obvious... probably) and, for me it deserves it's own blog.

Huh?

“Music is enough for a lifetime, but a lifetime is not enough for music” - Sergei Rachmaninov

You make no sense

That wasn't a question.

We weren't asking one.

Ehhh... sure... Move ahead.

So...?

I'll update this blog a lot more than my current one (maybe twice a week or something like that), with my own selection of music, which I guess nobody will pay attention to...

What can someone expect in here?

Well, anything raging from rock to metal (well, the language may vary from spanish to english, to italian, to an instrumental song... so yeah) and maybe ... maaaaaaaaaaaybe a song that doesn't fit the normal profile at all ... And well, maybe a little description on how I got to know the song and/or  band ... So, yes, you've been warned... Memories might appear in the future...

For starters, Porcupine Tree's: The Rest Will Flow, and (my favorite band) Dream Theater's: Solitary Shell ... No memories this time... But I'll leave the lyrics...

The Rest Will Flow - Porcupine Tree

Album: In Absentia

I was pretending to be floating strong
But I was sinking
In to still water
Eyes closed
All of the rest will flow
Then out of darkness I found I could still feel
Something good
Out of the woods
Eyes closed
All of the rest will flow
One simple thing that I never could see
But now I know
All of the rest will flow
Stay with me my angel I found you
Now I don't feel low
All of the rest will flow
Eyes closed
All of the rest will flow

Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence: VI. Solitary Shell - Dream Theater

Album: Six Degrees Of Inner Turbulence

He seemed no different from the rest
Just a healthy normal boy
His mama always did her best
And he was daddy's pride and joy

He learned to walk and talk on time
But never cared much to be held
and steadily he would decline
Into his solitary shell

As a boy he was considered somewhat odd
Kept to himself most of the time
He would daydream in and out of his own world
but in every other way he was fine

He's a Monday morning lunatic
Disturbed from time to time
Lost within himself
In his solitary shell

A temporary catatonic
Madman on occasion
When will he break out
Of his solitary shell

He struggled to get through his day
He was helplessly behind
He poured himself onto the page
Writing for hours at a time

As a man he was a danger to himself
Fearful and sad most of the time
He was drifting in and out of sanity
But in every other way he was fine

He's a Monday morning lunatic
Disturbed from time to time
Lost within himself
In his solitary shell

A momentary maniac
With casual delusions
When will he be let out
Of his solitary shell
